St John Ambulance Papua New Guinea
Established in 1957, the National St John Ambulance Service of Papua New Guinea (NStJA) is a statutory body and auxiliary service of the Papua New Guinea Government. It operates PNG’s emergency ambulance service and the 111-emergency operations centre aross the four regions of Papua New Guinea through the National Department of Health and in partnership with Provincial Health Authorities.
NStJA works together with partners to provide, develop and strengthen emergency medical response and retrieval services in PNG, as an annex of government. They provide a holistic approach to emergency health care by providing services at all stages of a patient’s emergency journey. At a community level they teach first aid which equips people with skills to quickly preserve life in the first few moments. Their fleet of modern ambulances provides emergency medical response and transport while at home medical care services help people get convenient health care at home, reducing the burden on busy emergency departments. NStJA also teaches basic and emergency life support courses to doctors and nurses, so they have the skills to provide immediate interventions in rural and remote hospitals.
NStJA PNG is the RECSI implementing partner for the Papua New Guinea stream.
